Frequently Asked Questions

REFUSE & LEAF REMOVAL
Q. When is trash pick up in the City?
A. Trash is picked up every Monday throughout the City. Please have trash placed at the curb prior to 7 a.m.

Q. I have a large item to dispose of. What can I do with it?
A. The City of Frankfort contracts with Allied Waste of Manistee for waste and refuse removal. For large items, simply call Allied Waste at 231-723-4850 and they will issue a sticker for the item.

Q. Is the garbage running late because of the holiday?
A. Refuse collection will be delayed one working day after: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Q. What can I do with my leaves?
A. Allied Waste will pick up bagged leaves for City of Frankfort residents 1 time per month beginning the second Friday of April through the second Friday of August and twice a month (second and forth Friday) in September and October. The final pick up will be the second Friday of November. Bags may be purchased at City Hall.

WATER/SEWER
Q. When are water bills due?
A. Water bills are due the 27th of every month.

Q. What do “WB” and “SB” on my water bill mean?
A. WB = Water Base; SB = Sewer Base.

TAXES
Q. When are taxes due?
A. Winter taxes will be mailed December 1st and are due February 14th. Summer taxes are mailed July 1st and are due September 14th.

Q. Can I pay my taxes or water bill with a credit card?
A. Not at this time, however, water bills may be automatically deducted from a checking account. Simply pick up a form at City Hall. Online banking is also available.

CITY COUNCIL
Q. Can anyone attend City Council meetings?
A. Council meetings are public meetings and anyone is welcome to attend. Special closed sessions that deal with personnel and some legal matters are not open to the public.

Q. When are City Council meetings held?
A. Frankfort City Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber located at 412 Main St., Frankfort.

Q. How is the City of Frankfort’s mayor selected?
A. The mayor and the mayor pro tem are selected by the city council from among its own members. The mayor is the presiding officer at council meetings, with the mayor pro tem filling that role in the mayor's absence. Both the mayor and mayor pro tem have the same voting power as any other council member.

Q. Where can I find the minutes of past City Council meetings?
A. Council meeting minutes are available on this website under the “Minutes” tab to the right or you can request copies from the City Clerk at 231-352-7117.

MARINA
Q. Is there a waiting list for the marina?
A. Yes

Q. How do I get on the list?
A. Call us with your name, mailing address, phone number and size of your boat and you will be added to the current waiting list.

Q. Once I sign up, do I remain on the waiting list for the marina?
A. No. Each year a new list is formed. Be sure to call us back if you wish to remain on the list

Q. How many slips are available at the marina?
A. 34 seasonal and 36 transient

Q. Does the marina take reservations?
A. No, slips are available on a first come, first served basis.

GENERAL
Q. What companies handle the utilities in the City of Frankfort?
A. Consumers Energy handles the electric, DTE handles the gas, cable is handled by Charter Communications and DirecTv and Dish Network are available as well.

Q. Where can I purchase my dog license?
A. Dog licenses are available at City Hall December 1st through March 1st. Proof of current rabies vaccination from your veterinarian is required to purchase a dog license.

Q. I want to use a City park for a family gathering. What do I need to do?
A. You must contact City Hall for a Facility Service & Request form for park availability. Parks are available on a first come, first served basis.

Q. Can I park on the City streets?
A. No parking is allowed on any City street from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m., November 1st through April 1st.

Q. My street light is out. How do I report it?
A. Report the outage to City Hall at 231-352-7117 and they will contact a representative of Consumers Power
